J Barrie Haste
J. Barrie Haste's richly deserved
reputation as one of the West Riding's most eminent watercolour artists has
spread much further than his native Yorkshire. Indeed his many one-man
exhibitions around the U.K. have culminated in his inclusion in such prestigious
shows as the touring "Britain in watercolour", the Royal Society of Marine
Artists and the Institute of Painters in Watercolour. Venice has long been Barrie's favourite city. The play of light on the water and
the ancient stone has inspired some of his finest paintings.
He is influenced by painters of the Norwich School, particularly Cotman and
Turner, the two artists he admires most. Painstaking research into their methods
and those of Russell Flint, coupled with his own free - flowing style, come
together to produce these most sought after paintings. His work can be found in many important collections such as The Newburgh Priory,
Lord and Lady Deramore, Sir Donald Baron, Lady Bell, Sir Martin Beckett,
Rowntree Mackintosh and the Yorkshire Bank.
